what can I expect in counseling?

Therapy is your tool to use in the way that best supports your needs. Whether you decide to begin in order to address a specific problem or you need support to accomplish a goal, I will tailor the process and my therapeutic approach accordingly. Typically, clients will meet with me once a week for 30-60 minutes. Our first sessions will be dedicated to getting to know each other and to collaborating to create an appropriate plan. Between sessions, you will be practicing new skills, making changes to your lifestyle, and observing your life looking for challenges and growth. You may ask questions at any time, I want to ensure that you are comfortable.

There is no possible way to answer this question because your needs are unique and may change over time. You can begin and end therapy at any time by communicating with your counselor. However, in order to get the most out of it, you need to commit to the work between sessions and to regularly attending the online session with your counselor. Honoring yourself in this way will increase your likelihood of success and feel great.

My standard fee is $150 per hour for online counseling services. Fees increase or decrease depending on the session length. Prior to your first appointment we will review all possible costs and you will have a chance to ask questions.

I work hard to balance being accessible to clients who want to work with me and  focusing my time on client services.  I am committed to working with you to find solutions to pay for counseling services and get the help you are so bravely seeking. You have the following options to pay for your counseling services with me:

1. You may choose to pay with a credit/debit card at the time of your session. As with all decisions, there are positives and negatives to using your insurance to pay for mental health services. I encourage you to check out this blog post for a deeper explanation about the pros/cons of using insurance.    Link to Article on Pros/Cons of Using Insurance

2. Need to use your insurance? No problem. If you live in Colorado I work with most insurance companies in your state. If you live in WY, I work with BCBS, Aetna, Cigna, and Optum (including United and UMR). Please contact me for details about how to use your benefits.

I am happy to answer any questions you have about how to pay for therapy.

how can I get the most out of counseling?

I have observed two things that can really make a difference in how you experience therapy and what you get out of it. While there are many other factors that impact your growth, these seem to be universal:

Relationship- the therapeutic nature of the relationship between a counselor and client is unique and powerful. As in all relationships, communication is a key part of it's success. We must establish trust in order for you to feel comfortable opening up and for you to be able to address issues as they arise in the course of therapy. In order to facilitate this, I will check in with you regularly regarding our trust and relationship.

Active Participation- Beginning counseling is a commitment to yourself. Working with a counselor is different than seeking support of family and friends. The difference is that you will have access to new perspectives, education, and skills that I have obtained through experience and training. I provide a confidential space to address any of your challenges without feeling like a burden. When you choose to fully engage in therapy you will experience change (even if it's not always easy). I am here to support you as you do the work and show up for yourself.
